Medicine / Informatics / Observation

Better systems.

I’m Justin Halls, MD, a physician working at the intersection of transfusion medicine, clinical informatics, and the systems that shape patient care.

I practice medicine, build tools, and think about how healthcare can work better.

A Philosophy of Institutional Clinical Informatics

Make institutional
intelligence actionable.

Technical intelligence. Clinical-informatics intelligence. Distributed domain expertise. A deliberate partnership that connects clinical need to institutional action.

THE MODEL

Governance & partnership

Enterprise IT and Clinical Informatics as distinct partners, connected to domain expertise through a bidirectional hub-and-spoke model.

THE PURPOSE

The five aims

Increase signal, surface friction, shorten the distance to action, measure after implementation, and measure value.

THE DESTINATION

A learning health system

Clinical experience informs design. Real-world effects inform learning. The institution adapts.

SerologyDecision support

Making the reasoning visible.

I’m developing clinical decision support for antibody identification and serologic interpretation—a way to bring structured reasoning and clear explanations to a complex area of laboratory medicine.

Outside medicine

A reason to look closer.

I’m an avid birder and photographer. This is the other side of what I do: getting outside, paying attention, and seeing what turns up.
